ABA returns to San Diego

28 April 2006

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the league will return next season to San Diego, California with an expansion team scheduled to begin play in November. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "San Diego is a great sports city and the new ownership group there is experienced in business and basketball and entertainment. We are very proud to be back in San Diego and know that the team will be successful based on the tremendous progress made in the last few months as the ownership group has been laying the foundation for the team."

The ownership group, CMK Investments, will be headed by San Diego businesswomen Andriana Ramirez; attorney Charles Hoge and entertainment entepreneur Matthew B. Allison. Mrs. Ramirez stated, "We have had the opportunity to see the ABA up close having attended three league meetings and many games including the ABA All-Star Game in Florida, and know that San Diego will get behind this exciting brand of professional basketball at affordable prices if we do the right job both on and off the court, including a major commitment to the community and its youth programs. And that's what we plan to do."

"To begin, we've hired Michael Kennedy as our head coach," added Hoge. "Michael was a player/assistant coach on the 2002-2004 Jamaican National Team and VP of Overseas Operations for the Jamaica Basketball Association. He will be charged with putting together a very competitive team and we know he can do it. And we've assembled a remarkable group of people to work in community and public relations, marketing, radio/TV and the other important elements of a successful business and basketball operation. The San Diego Wildcats will be one of the premiere teams in the ABA."
