Adaptec Leads Industry in Data Protection Software for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA II (SATA II) Product Offerings24 January 2006
Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that all Adaptec SAS and SATA II IOP-based RAID products now come standard with four unique advanced data protection features including industry leading RAID 6 technology, multi-level array support and array manageability software for increased reliability, performance and data recovery. With these included software features, Adaptec SAS and SATA II RAID controllers now deliver the highest level of data protection and disaster recovery available. Businesses need to ensure that mission-critical data stored on servers and external arrays remains protected and accessible at all times without compromising server or network performance. With Adaptec's industry leading RAID controllers, customers can harness the most advanced software currently available to protect business-critical data against loss with real-time data recovery capabilities as well as increased system uptime. With requirements for data protection, disaster recovery, and storage performance continuing to grow, Adaptec announced the Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite in October 2005 for customers who needed the most powerful data protection available. Several of these Advanced Data Protection Suite features are now standard across Adaptec's entire family of SAS and SATA II IOP-based RAID controllers: -- Dual Drive Failure Protection provides extra fault tolerance against data loss with the ability to survive the simultaneous failure of two drives. -- Hot Space (RAID 5EE) allows users to distribute the hot spare disk space across the array in order to increase performance -- unique to the industry. -- Striped Mirror (RAID 1E) delivers RAID 1 protection across more than two drives including an odd number of drives for enhanced performance. -- Copyback Hot Spare improves array tracking and manageability by allowing administrators to designate a physical drive location as a hot spare. "OEMs and system integrators are looking for ways to meet the demands for increasing levels of data reliability from enterprises of all sizes, as both the amount of core business process data and the performance expectations of users continue to grow," said Ian Eigenbrod, senior research analyst with IDC. "Companies, like Adaptec, that standardize these advanced data protection and reliability features across a complete line of SAS and SATA RAID controllers are making higher levels of data survivability accessible to the mass market." Highlighted Links Adaptec "Adaptec became the leader in the SCSI RAID controller market because customers knew if they chose the Adaptec brand their data was safe," said Tim Connolly, vice president of marketing for the Data Protection Solutions Group at Adaptec. "Now we are extending this leadership to the next generation of SCSI by making these new, advanced data protection features which have been shipping for 10 months in top tier servers, standard on all our SAS RAID controllers as well as our SATA II RAID Controllers." In addition to the included data protection features, customers can also choose to purchase the optional Snapshot Backup feature for their Adaptec SAS or SATA II IOP-based RAID controllers to enable the creation of point-in-time copies of an array for improved data backup, management and disaster recovery. This feature is also unique to the industry and will be available as a software license key upgrade for $199 MSRP in January 2006. Pricing and Availability These advanced data protection features are currently available for the Adaptec Serial ATA II RAID 2420SA four-port controller, the Adaptec Serial ATA II RAID 2820SA eight-port controller, the Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI RAID 4800SAS eight-port PCI-X controller and the Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI RAID 4805SAS eight-port PCIe controller. Customers who have already purchased the above SAS and SATA II RAID products can easily upgrade their controllers with these new standard features at no additional charge by downloading a complimentary firmware upgrade at: http://www.adaptec.com/support.
