Adtron IDE Flash Disk I25FB Passes Military Standards Tests for U. S. Navy Applications

15 February 2006

Solid state disk manufacturer Adtron Corporation, the industry leader in delivering smart data storage solutions to the industrial marketplace, announced today that the I25FB IDE flash disk passed standard military tests conducted by National Technical Systems in Tempe, AZ. Beyond standard MIL-STD-810F testing, MIL-S-901D tests demonstrate that the I25FB Flashpak® flash disk is capable of withstanding shock loadings which may be incurred during wartime service due to the effects of weapon attacks. In separate MIL-STD-167-1 tests, the I25FB proved resilient to internally and externally imposed shipboard vibrations, subject to dry and damp heat conditions, necessary to operate in a shipboard environment.

In this U. S. Navy application, the Adtron 16 GByte I25FB flash disk with commercial temperature media is being installed in the Local Control Panels (LOCOPs) by Woodward Governor Company (NASDAQ:WGOV). The LOCOPs are designed to monitor and control the parameters required to start and operate the generator sets used on the CG-47 Ticonderoga class cruisers and DDG-51 Arleigh Burke class destroyers. "Compared to rotating mechanical hard drives, solid state flash disks deliver clear reliability and durability advantages for shipboard applications," stated Andy Cullis, Woodward s Military/Marine Account Manager. "Adtron s flash disks provide a very robust data storage solution, which is critical to meeting the Navy s shock, vibration, temperature and humidity requirements for the LOCOP."

"New economies and geometries are driving the selection of flash disks for a wide variety of defense and industrial applications, opening up opportunities for new flash disk applications" stated Wieslaw Wojtczak, Flashpak Product Line Manager. "The I25FB flash disk, coupled with Adtron ArrayPro® technology, represents a new breed of flash disks that compete in capacity and performance with low-end rotating magnetic media while significantly improving field life of the host device."

With a capacity range from 1 to 56 GBytes, the I25FB flash disk supports standard IDE UDMA transfer modes. Solid state media options include either commercial (0 to 70 degrees C) or industrial (-40 to 85 degrees C) temperatures. Single unit pricing for a 24 GByte I25FB flash drive with a commercial temperature rating is $5,710.
