Archivas to Showcase Content Aware Storage Solution

31 March 2006

 Archivas(TM), Inc., the leading provider of fixed content archiving solutions, today announced that it will showcase its industry leading content aware storage (CAS) solution at Storage Networking World (SNW), Spring 2006, being held April 3 - 6, 2006 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego, CA, in booth #C-35. In addition, Archivas founder and chief technology officer, Andres Rodriguez, will deliver a Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) tutorial entitled, "Archives, Backups and Disaster Recovery: Lines of Distinction" on Wednesday, April 5th from 3:05 p.m. - 3:50 p.m.

Archivas also announced today that its customer the Whitehead Institute-MIT BioImaging Center and the Computational and Systems Biology Initiative (CSBi) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was named one of five finalists in the SNW Spring 2006 "Best Practices in Storage" Awards Program in the category of "Data Lifecycle Management." The two top Award Recipients in each category will be announced at the SNW Gala Dinner, which will include the Awards Ceremony and live entertainment, on Wednesday, April 5th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

The Archivas demonstration in booth #C-35 will highlight the Archivas Cluster's (ArC) unparalleled ability to address the unique demands of digital archiving - specifically, how records are quickly and easily ingested into the archive, how those records are preserved and how real-time access is achieved. Attendees will experience first hand how this industry leading active archiving technology can dramatically reduce the time to access data, increase data availability and ensure users can read archived data many years into the future.document.write('');

Andres Rodriguez will present his SNIA tutorial entitled, "Archives, Backups and Disaster Recovery: Lines of Distinction," on Wednesday, April 5th from 3:05 p.m. - 3:50 p.m. During the presentation, Rodriguez will discuss how as technology has advanced it is now possible to maintain all records online, however this has caused the lines between what is considered to be archives vs. backups vs. the first copy of a stored record, to blur. All of these are generally cases of fixed content - content that, once written, does not change - but each has very different use cases. For example, backup copies are traditionally not intended for access except in very rare circumstances. This presentation will detail the traditional differences between differing uses of fixed content, storage technologies that are now commonly utilized, as well as how new online fixed content storage solutions can change the status quo of these usage models.
