Blount, Williams and Alexander Assigned to Stockton22 May 2006
STOCKTON, Calif. * The Stockton Lightning have announced FB/LB Marshal Blount, FB/LBJohn Williams and WR/DB Deondre Alexander have been assigned to the Lightning by thearenafootball2 league office. Alexander, 25, comes to Stockton after spending a portion of the 2005 campaign withthe Bakersfield Blitz, appearing in two games while posting three receptions, 13yards and two one tackle. After a 2004 stint with the San Diego Riptide, Alexandergarnered an invite to an Arena Football League mini-camp session with the Las VegasGladiators. Alexander, who is slated to make his Lightning debut against the Bakersfield Blitzand will wear jersey number 28, wrapped up his college career with Oregon StateUniversity (NCAA), tallying four receptions for 29 yards for the Beavers in 2002.Prior to transferring to Oregon State, Alexander earned two letters as starting widereceiver at San Marcos Palomar College (Calif.), garnering Mission Central Divisionall-star honors in 2001 with 74 receptions, 1,201 yards and 16 touchdowns. Blount, 26, returns to Northern California after parlaying a decorated career at SanJose State University (NCAA). He previously spent the 2004 af2 season with theCentral Valley Coyotes with Lightning teammate Kenyatte Morgan, appearing 10 gameswith 17 rushing attempts, 74 rushing yards, five catches, 36 receiving yards andfive total touchdown. He is slated to make his Lightning debut against the Blitz andwill wear jersey number 42. Williams, who previously wrapped up his college football career with Texas College(NAIA), appeared in 10 games in 2005 for Steers while finishing sixth on the teamwith 32 tackles, guiding Texas College to a 6-4 overall record (5-1 conference) and2005 Central States Football League co-Championship. Williams previously helpedguide San Francisco City College to two national junior college championships. The Lightning return to play with a week 8 match-up on Saturday, May 20 against theBakersfield Blitz at 7:00 p.m. PT at Rabobank Arena.
