Brocade SAN Switch Added to Network Appliance Storage Network Portfolio20 June 2006
Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) (Nasdaq: BRCD) today announced that Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTAP) is adding the Brocade SilkWorm(R) 4900 switch to its expanding 4 Gbit/sec Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure product portfolio. Built on proven 4 Gbit/sec Fibre Channel SAN technology, the high-performance Brocade SilkWorm 4900 fabric switch is capable of scaling from 32 to 64 ports in a single domain. The new switch is designed for a wide range of storage networking applications, including use as a cost-effective edge switch in core-to-edge SAN designs that require high fan-out ratios and as a standalone switch with mid- to high-end storage arrays. The SilkWorm 4900 is designed to meet stringent enterprise requirements for reliability and availability, as well as flexibility, by offering "Ports on Demand" capabilities that enable customers to upgrade to higher port counts when their applications require it. "NetApp continues to raise the bar and increase our industry-leading SAN growth by expanding our portfolio of SAN solutions for the data center. With its unique expandability and customer value, the Brocade SilkWorm 4900 switch will be a key ingredient in this effort," said Patrick Rogers, Vice President of Products and Alliances at Network Appliance. "Our long-term partnership with Brocade enhances NetApp's delivery of simplified SAN storage solutions, offering superior TCO to our growing enterprise customer base." In a compact 2U package, the SilkWorm 4900 is designed to meet enterprise requirements with features such as redundant, hot-swappable power and cooling components, and hot code activation for expansion. Additional key features that enhance enterprise performance include enhanced Brocade Inter-Switch Link (ISL) Trunking to support data path rates up to 32 Gbit/sec in a single trunk and Dynamic Path Selection (DPS) for ISL load balancing. "Brocade and NetApp are aligned in our commitment to help IT management succeed in the next generation of networked storage by providing customers with improved SAN reliability, performance, and scalability," said Tom Buiocchi, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Brocade. "We continue to work together to provide high-performance connectivity solutions and are very pleased to see our SilkWorm 4900 switch offered as part of the NetApp(R) portfolio." The Brocade SilkWorm family offers the industry's most extensive selection of networked storage connectivity products, ranging from highly available enterprise-class directors to edge switches and management tools. Brocade SilkWorm products are designed to concurrently support multiple hosts and operating systems, enabling multiple servers to connect to multiple storage systems from NetApp as well as other vendors. This flexible product family facilitates the consolidation of information onto fewer storage systems for improved management, protection, and availability. The Brocade SilkWorm 4900 64-port SAN switch is now generally available from NetApp and NetApp channel partners. About Brocade Communications Systems, Inc.
