China home-use notebook computer sales seen at 5.4 mln by 2009 - Analysys30 January 2005
An estimated 5.4 mln notebook computers will be bought for home use in China in 2009, representing average annual growth of 52.8 pct between 2005 and 2009, the Beijing-based technology research firm Analysys International said.
Analysys president Edward Yu cited dropping prices, the increasing mobility of the Chinese consumer, and the trend towards a 'digital home' centered around electronic equipment as driving the growth.
Some 649,000 notebook computers were bought for home use in 2004, the company said. Around 4.2 mln new notebook computers will be bought for business use in 2009, compared to 1.72 mln in 2004, the company said.
Chinese computer maker Lenovo held 27.7 pct of China's notebook computer market in 2004, according to research done by Analysys. Its closest rival was IBM (NYSE: IBM) , with a 10 pct share.
Lenovo recently signed a 1.75 bln usd deal to acquire IBM's PC business, making it the world's number three computer maker. The deal is currently pending US review. buro@xinhuafinance.com
