CRU-DataPort's New Serial ATA External Storage Enclosures Establish Premium Standard for Rugged Reliability

24 June 2005

CRU-DataPort(TM), developer of rugged data security and storage devices since 1986, today announced the release of a new line of affordable Serial ATA external storage enclosures aimed at establishing a new standard in reliability, flexibility and ease of use. Each compact all-metal chassis includes DataPort(TM) removable drive carriers which feature 25,000 insertion-rated connectors, patented drive cooling technology and can support either Serial ATA or IDE/ATA hard drives of any capacity.

"CRU-DataPort's new SATA enclosures debunk the myth that rugged reliability necessarily means a complicated installation," said Jon Johnson, executive director of marketing for CRU-DataPort. "Our new storage enclosures allow our customers to quickly configure up to two terabytes of ultra-reliable native Serial ATA storage for any application, including RAID, backup and secure offline storage."

DataPort Serial ATA Storage Enclosures can also support IDE/ATA hard drives when using the company's new IDE-to-Serial ATA removable drive carriers as an optional feature. "This option was designed to help ease the transition from IDE to Serial ATA drives," continued Mr. Johnson. "It allows everyone from enterprise departments to home-users to upgrade their systems to the latest Serial ATA technology, and still use either IDE or Serial ATA drives. They'll both appear the same to the SATA channel in the system which will maximize return on investment for current hard drives."

Available in 2-Drive and 4-Drive configurations in both black and white, each enclosure is designed to support 150Mbytes/sec transfer rates per drive and is backed by a 3-year warranty. The 2-Drive model has a total of four ultra-quiet cooling fans, while the 4-Drive model includes six cooling fans and an exchangeable 115V/230V power supply. Host connection is very straightforward with Serial ATA Signal Extend internal to external cables, PCI mounting brackets and a shielded 1-meter SATA cable per drive included. The 2-Drive enclosure can be configured to support RAID levels 0,1,10 and JBOD while the 4-drive Enclosure can support RAID levels 0,1,10, 5 and JBOD.

The DataPort SATA External Storage Enclosures are available immediately with an average selling price of $198.00 for the 2-Drive model and $425.00 for the 4-Drive model.
