News Advisory: -- CSNA Will Honor Assemblyman Yee, Sen. Maldonado for Support of School Nutrition Programs at Sacramento Legislative Action Conference May 22, 2006 State Sen. Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria) and Assemblyman Leland Yee (D- San Francisco) will be honored Monday, May 22 by the California School Nutrition Association (CSNA) for their support of legislation that benefits the nutritional advancement of California youth. The legislators will be recognized at the CSNA's annual Legislative Action Conference held at the Sheraton Hotel in Sacramento. The Moscone Award, named after former State Senator and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone, will be presented to Assemblyman Yee for his continuing interest in authoring legislation that helps protect the health of children through better nutrition in our schools. The Friend of Child Nutrition Award will be presented to Sen. Maldonado for his authorship of SB 281, signed into law last year by Gov. Schwarzenegger. The bill established the California Fresh Start Program, providing school food service programs with additional funds to purchase and serve an additional serving of fruits or vegetables as part of a student's school breakfast. Conference attendees will also hear from Sen. Kevin Murray (D- LA), the author of SB 1674 that would provide an additional $60 million for the state's reimbursement obligation for school meals. California school food service programs have not had an increase in the state reimbursement rate since 1990, while absorbing costs that have more than doubled since 1990. Further information about the conference is available on the CSNA website http://www.calsna.org/LACConference2006.htm As a powerful voice for all involved in school nutrition programs, CSNA supports legislative efforts that improve the nutritional health and physical well-being of California's children. CSNA is a professional organization with over 2,500 individual members representing both school food service employees and industry. California school meal programs serve over 2.7 million children daily. http://www.usnewswire.com/
