Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2006) - D.C. United will pay tribute to the Armed Forces by hosting the team's Seventh Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 3. The event is scheduled in conjunction with United's match against the New England Revolution and will honor all military personnel, who continue to selflessly serve and protect our country, and their families. Kick-off for the game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. "It is a privilege and an honor for D.C. United to host members of the armed forces and their families each season," said Stephen Zack, Senior Vice President of D.C. United. "Through a host of planned activities and special events, we will honor service members while raising funds for local USO efforts." The event will showcase aspects of the Armed Forces community as a part of Soccer Celebration held in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium prior to the match. The festival begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include booths for military recruiters, the USO and America Supports You, a Defense Department program highlighting grassroots and corporate support for the nation's servicemen and women and their families. Additional activities saluting area military personnel are scheduled before kick-off and at half time. The USO Liberty Belles, a fly-over, and a swearing-in ceremony for military recruits is planned. Retired Air Force Brigadier General Gary Ambrose, joined by patients from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center, will kick out the ceremonial game ball. Half time activities will feature the United States Army Drill Team and a check presentation to the USO of Metropolitan Washington. 1,500 free tickets will be provided for active-duty members of the Armed Forces, and additional discounted tickets will be available on game day for military ID holders. D.C. United will donate a portion of the proceeds from tickets sales to the USO of Metropolitan Washington.
