Day's Chief Scientist Discusses JSR 170 at Premier Storage Network Event25 June 2005
Day Software (SWX:DAYN), a leading provider of global content management and content infrastructure software, today announced that the company's chief scientist, Roy T. Fielding, hosted a session titled "JSR 170: Standardizing the Content Repository API" at the Storage Networking User Group (SNUG), in San Diego. This symposium is focused on industry leaders and innovators in the data storage industry.
Designing an API such that it is independent of both applications and underlying data stores is a challenge. The Content Repository for Java Technology API (JSR 170) standard has met that challenge by bridging the gap between application development using a generic API and the deployment of data stores that can be tuned to the specific needs of an application after it has been developed.
The San Diego Storage Networking User Group hosted an overview of this watershed new standard that simplifies the management and creation of content. Fielding is one of the core architects of JCR and discussed how a standards-based content repository approach can simplify data storage management.
Fielding is responsible for guiding Day's research efforts to update the infrastructure upon which the Web is based, thereby improving the reliability and robust behavior of applications built upon that infrastructure. Fielding is best known for his work in developing and defining the modern World Wide Web infrastructure. He is the primary architect of the current Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP/1.1), co-author of the Internet standards for HTTP and Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI), and a founder of several open-source software projects, including the Apache HTTP Server Project.
