EDN Magazine's 'Hot 100 Products' for 200420 January 2005
An innovative series of Schottky rectifiers from Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH - News) has been named one of the EDN "Hot 100 Products" for 2004. Vishay's SSA23L through SSC54 Schottky rectifiers in the SMA, SMB, and SMC packages were one of eight winners in the Components category to be selected by EDN's staff of technical editors.
"Although how innovative or 'hot' a product is never ensures market success, these products are the 100 we think are the most promising toward that end among the thousands that vendors introduced in 2004," said John Dodge, EDN editor-in-chief.
"I am very happy that Vishay products once again have been honored by EDN magazine," said Dr. Felix Zandman, Vishay's Chairman of the Board and Chief Technical Officer. "Last year EDN honored a Vishay passive component - the CSM current-sensing foil resistor - and this year it has honored a new series of Vishay discrete semiconductors. Vishay's commitment to innovation extends throughout the Company and includes all of our product groups."
The winning products from Vishay are high-efficiency Schottky rectifiers that are capable of handling higher levels of current in less space than industry-standard devices. For example, the SMA-packaged rectifier can handle 2 A or 3 A, versus the industry-standard value of 1 A. Likewise, the SMB- and SMC-packaged high-current-density Schottky rectifiers can handle 4 A and 5 A, respectively, versus industry-standard values of 2 A and 3 A. The SMB-packaged devices are moreover industry's first 4-A rated Schottky rectifiers in this package type.
Vishay's new SSA23L through SSC54 Schottky rectifiers in the SMA, SMB, and SMC packages are intended for power supplies, high-frequency dc-to-dc converters, high-frequency inverters, free-wheeling diodes, and polarity protection in end products including power supply systems, notebook PCs, motherboards, LCD monitors, DVD players, printers, and battery chargers for cellular and cordless phones and digital cameras.
Samples and production quantities of the new high-current-density, surface-mount Schottky rectifiers from Vishay Semiconductors are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for larger orders.
