Familiar Face Returns to San Angelo

31 May 2006

The San Angelo Stampede Express of the Intense Football League has continued to juggle their roster as they look for the right pieces of the championship puzzle. Today the organization is proud to announce the return of one of those pieces. A familiar face returns today as the team is proud to announce the signing of wide receiver/linebacker Johnny Anderson.

This will be Anderson's second stint with the Stampede Express, he played here in the inaugural season of 2004. He spent 2005 with the Odessa Roughnecks and started this year with former Odessa Coach Chris Williams as a member of the Tennessee Valley Vipers of Arena 2. The 6'0" 225 pound Anderson's return should help the team on both sides of the ball.

Anderson is an offensive threat running or receiving the ball. He scored 8 touchdowns on the ground for Odessa last season. Ironically, he had his best receiving performance against the Roughnecks in 2004 with 13 receptions for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns. He may be at his best on the defensive side. Anderson was among the league leaders last season in tackles, solo tackles, interceptions, interception yards, pass break-ups, and fumble recoveries. He finished last season with 47.0 tackles, 38 of which were solos, and had 10 interceptions for 120 yards with 1 touchdown. He also recovered 3 fumbles last year. He scored 4 touchdowns in 7 games for the Vipers this season, not surprisingly 2 were on offense and 2 were on defense.

The Stampede Express continues their season this Saturday night, June 3, at home against the Louisiana Swashbucklers. The game is sponsored by SITEL, the first 1,000 fans through the door will receive a trumpet noise maker. Season and individual game tickets are available by calling 947-DOWN (3696).
