GeoTrust Records 40 Percent Growth in Volume of SSL Certificates Issued Through Successful Reseller Channel18 July 2006
GeoTrust, Inc., a leader in identity verification solutions for e-business and a leading issuer of digital certificates for web security, today announced that it has recorded 40 percent growth in the number of SSL certificates issued by its reseller partners during the period July 2005 to July 2006. Much of this growth is attributed to the success of the major web hosting and domain registration companies that continue to partner with GeoTrust, including EV1Servers(TM), 1&1 Internet, Inc. and Register.com. GeoTrust's fully automated provisioning process is also a significant driver of this success. "While many hosting companies switch SSL vendors, we work diligently to maintain a loyal reseller base through industry-leading technology, broad product offerings and most importantly, highly personal relationships with our resellers," said Tom Serani, managing sales director for GeoTrust. "We have earned a reputation for progressive, flexible and competitive offerings and have been extremely successful in recruiting not only the largest ISPs and hosting companies as our customers, but smaller shops as well. People see the GeoTrust reseller program as a way to not only grow their business and revenue, but to also add value to their customers." World-class Internet Services Companies Select GeoTrust GeoTrust's resellers have seen tremendous benefits from the high-touch relationships and customizable offerings provided by GeoTrust. Over 50 percent of the sites hosted by EV1Servers in the past year had SSL certificates provided by GeoTrust, according to a June 2006 Netcraft survey. Over that same time period, 1&1 Internet recorded close to 50 percent growth in the number of sites hosted, also according to Netcraft, and Register.com saw 100 percent growth in the number of SSL certificates they provisioned. These companies' growth and GeoTrust's increase in SSL certificates issued are indicators of a consumer trend towards security, as Internet users are becoming increasingly savvy about protecting themselves online, and now know to look for the lock symbol or other indicators that a web site is secure. As a result, in the past year alone more than 94,000 new web sites have adopted SSL certificates, representing 23 percent growth, according to the Netcraft report. "GeoTrust is always innovating and upgrading its products so that we can provide more value to our customers," said Andreas Gauger, CEO of 1&1 Internet, the world's largest web hosting provider by active websites. "Creative, flexible and customizable programs and industry leading technology, such as a custom API that allow us to provide a more tailored product to our customers, set GeoTrust apart from other SSL certificate providers." Jeff Lowenberg, vice president of operations for EV1Servers, a web-hosting company that operates two telco-grade data centers with over 100,000 square feet of web hosting and manages over 20,000 Windows and Linux dedicated servers that power over one million websites, said; "Our relationship with GeoTrust goes beyond the standard reseller relationship-it is in fact a true partnership. GeoTrust takes the extra step to help us build our business by showing us how to capitalize on market trends, build and drive marketing programs and create attractive offers for our customers." "GeoTrust is an established authority in website security," added Gregory Howard, director channel sales of Register.com, a leading provider of global domain name website and Internet services, with almost over three million domain names under management. "As the driving force behind much of the innovation of SSL certificates, GeoTrust's technology enables us to deliver highly trusted certificates to our customers that fulfill their e-commerce needs." In addition to SSL certificates for e-commerce and web services security, GeoTrust offers a full line of digital certificates, including client certificates for secure access, code signing certificates for software developers and a certified signing solution for Adobe(R) Acrobat(R).
