IBM Helps Small- and Mid-Sized Businesses Tackle E-Mail Governance

2 August 2006

helps deliver value faster since comparable archiving solutions can take days or even weeks to install and configure.

"The IBM E-Mail Archiving Solution enables our resellers to capitalize on growing demand for more efficient e-mail storage and management among their small- and mid-sized customers," said Pete Peterson, vice president of Tech Data Systems Product Marketing, an IBM Business Partner. "This is another important offering from Tech Data's IBM One Team to help resellers quickly deploy the type of high value solutions customers demand."

Powered by IBM BladeCenter servers based on the latest AMD Opteron processor, with industry-leading performance-per-watt to provide clients with advanced business-performance computing, it comes completely preloaded and pre-tested with IBM DB2 Content Manager and IBM DB2 CommonStore to support IBM Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange. It also includes Tivoli Storage Manager, software that manages IBM and multi-vendor storage systems, and WebSphere Application Server, for an end-to-end approach to e-mail archive management.

"This preloaded e-mail archiving solution is an example of how IBM and AMD are working together to help clients address some of their most pressing business needs," said Terri Hall, vice president of Software Alliances and Solutions, AMD (NYSE: AMD). "By offering the ability to manage e-mail archiving from a single tool based on IBM BladeCenter servers powered by AMD Opteron processors, IBM is delivering another high-value solution to the small- and mid-sized market."

IBM is also announcing new software for search and advanced discovery of e-mail messages, to help clients use compliance regulations as an opportunity to transform key business processes and improve efficiency.

IBM E-Mail Search for CommonStore for Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange helps clients retrieve e-mail messages for regulatory purposes or to comply with legal discovery orders. Using a Web-based interface, IBM E-Mail Search for CommonStore provides refined search capabilities of e-mails and attachments, and the ability to place e-mails on hold to prevent time-based disposition of the e-mail. IBM DB2 Records Manager can be added for records management, auditing and reporting of e-mail. Both can be added to the IBM CommonStore E-Mail Archiving Preload solution for enhanced compliance and litigation support.

IBM e-mail Search for CommonStore for Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange will be available from IBM and IBM Business Partners later this quarter. The IBM CommonStore E-Mail Archiving Preload will be available through IBM Business Partners in fourth quarter 2006.
