Lowry Stellar in Rehab Start as San Jose wins, 6-230 April 2006
With a buzz throughout the stadium and a near sellout crowd in attendance, San Francisco Giants starter Noah Lowry was stellar in his rehabilitation start for the San Jose Giants at Municipal Stadium Friday evening. The left-hander struck out nine Mavericks in 4 2/3 scoreless innings as the San Jose Giants went on to win the contest 6-2. Lowry didn't waste time to establish his deadly changeup, fooling the five of the first six batters he retired via the strikeout. The southpaw cruised the rest of the way before reaching a designated pitch limit and exiting in the fifth inning. The Mavericks defense certainly did its part to help the Giants to the victory. With a strong wind blowing at "Muni", High Desert committed five errors to help San Jose to their six run output. The top of the lineup did most of the damage for San Jose. Marcus Sanders, Mark Minicozzi and Julio Cordido combined on a 7-for-13 evening with a double, triple and two RBI. Brian Horwitz singled in a run in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Thomas King (1-1) fired 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory. It was a special night for fans at Municipal Stadium as San Jose Giant 2005 Co-MVP Kevin Frandsen made his major league debut for San Francisco. The new video board allowed for live video of Frandsen's at-bats during the game as the second baseman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored in San Francisco's 10-2 victory over Arizona. The San Jose Giants series with the High Desert Mavericks continues on Saturday with the first pitch at Municipal Stadium scheduled for 5:00 PM.
