News Advisory: -- Nearly 2,000 Riders in AIDS/LifeCycle to Leave San Francisco on June 4, Marking 25th Years of AIDS with 7-Day Ride to Los Angeles -- Event Will Raise a Record $7-plus Million for HIV/AIDS Services WHAT: A sea of nearly 2,000 cyclists, supported by hundreds of volunteer "roadies," will ride out of San Francisco as they begin a 7-day, 585-mile bike ride to Los Angeles that will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first reported cases of AIDS. They will raise more than $7 million for AIDS services and prevention programs at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center as participants in AIDS/LifeCycle. No other event raises more money for HIV/AIDS. Day 1: Daly City to Santa Cruz - -- 79.4 miles Visuals: -- Nearly 2,000 cyclists, wearing red helmet covers with a large 25 on them ("Not Another 25 Years"), riding out of San Francisco -- Event participants gathered together for emotional opening ceremony -- Cyclists peddling along California's coast and over beautiful hills WHERE: Begin: Daly City, CA, Cow Palace, 2600 Geneva Avenue, Gate 5 End: Santa Cruz, Harvey West Park, 326 Evergreen St. WHEN: Saturday, June 3, Orientation Day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Interview cyclists as they make final preparations and check-in. Sunday, June 4, Opening Ceremony & Ride-Out 5 to 5:45 a.m. -- Cyclists begin arriving 6 a.m. -- Opening Ceremony 6:30 a.m. -- Cyclists Ride-Out 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. -- Lunch Stop -- San Gregorio State Beach 4 to 7 p.m. -- Cyclists Arrive at Harvey West Park, Santa Cruz An inspiring and motivating opening ceremony to send off the nearly 2,000 cyclists, all of whom will wear helmet covers that read: "Not Another 25 Years." IMPORTANT: Media wishing to park inside the Cow Palace complex must be inside the Cow Palace and parked by 5 a.m. and will not be allowed to leave until the last cyclist has departed (approx. 7:45 a.m.). If you arrive after 5 a.m. or plan to depart before 7:45 a.m., we recommend that media park in "Media Reserved Parking" located just outside Gate 5 on Geneva Avenue.
