Perfect Coyotes Sweep Aces

Alexandria, LA; May 21, 2006 - Edinburg rallied from an early 3-0 deficit tocomplete a sweep of a three-game series against the Alexandria Aces atBringhurst Field with a 6-4 win Sunday behind a pair of two-run homers fromfirst baseman Jose Olmeda.


The United League's home run leader with four, Olmeda also had two homers inFriday's game. On Sunday, he connected for two-run blasts off losing pitcherBrian Martin (0-2) in the fifth inning and reliever Chris Brownsten in theseventh. The Coyotes, who improved to 6-0 on the season, also got a two-runhomer from designated hitter Eli Albertson in the fourth inning and a strongperformance from righthander Julio Ruiz (2-0).


Alexandria had taken a 3-0 lead in the early going. Second baseman LuisGuance blasted a two-run homer in the second inning to improve hisleague-best RBI total to 14 on the season. First baseman Josh Tranum, whoranks second with 10 RBI, singled in a run in the third inning to make it3-0. On the next play, rightfielder Adam Bonner drilled a double, butEdinburg cut down Tranum at the plate on a relay from Evan Cherry to JermyAcey to Eddie Wilson at the plate.


Martin allowed only one hit through the first three innings but fell victimto the long ball in the fourth and fifth inning and dropped to 0-2. RelieverFontella Jones threw two scoreless innings to keep it a close game in thelate innings. Alexandria made it 6-4 in the eighth on an Erick Mejiassingle, but Edinburg closer Edwar Ramirez came out of the bullpen to strikeout Luis Espinosa with two on and two out in the eight. Ramirez worked aperfect ninth for his second save.


After an off day Monday, the Aces resume their season-opening nine-gamehomestand Tuesday against the San Angelo Colts at 7:05 p.m. Alexandria acerighthander Santo Hernandez will take on San Angelo righthander Jed Jensen.The Aces and Colts also meet Wednesday at 10:35 a.m. and Thursday at 7:05p.m. For more information, log on to www.myacesbaseball.com.
