Pittsburgh Penguins and Central Blood Bank Partner for Day After Christmas 'Gift of Life' Blood Drive25 December 2005
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Central Blood Bank are partnering for the 3rd day after Christmas "Gift of Life" blood drive. The blood drive will be held on December 26 from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of Parkway Center Mall. All those registering at this special drive will be eligible to enter a random drawing for Pittsburgh Penguins tickets and team memorabilia. "We are very grateful for the generosity extended by the Pittsburgh Penguins' organization," said Judi Matok, COO and vice-president, Central Blood Bank. "The holidays are often a slow time of year for blood collections. Blood products have a shelf life, in some cases as short as five days, so it's important that we have continued support from the community even during this traditionally hectic time. In order to continue meeting the needs of area patients, Central Blood Bank must register 725 donors each day in all blood types. These blood drives are traditionally well-attended and we're hoping for another strong showing." Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in generally good health and must present valid identification. Interested donors should call Mary Wiegel at 412-209-7082, or e-mail her at mwiegel@itxm.org. All scheduled appointments will be honored. Donor Criteria Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Proper ID is required to donate blood. A Central Blood Bank or military ID, driver's license, or employee badge with picture and full name are all approved forms of ID.
