Procom Providing NAS Storage Solution11 January 2005
Technology, Inc. (OTC: PRCM), a value leader in enterprise-class network attached storage (NAS) solutions, announced that installation of 10 of its high-end NetFORCE 4000 series NAS filers has been completed at TES Corp., a leading Korean Internet service provider. TES is using the NF4000s as the storage component of its new Web-disk service (Hot Disk), which provides each customer with a basic 100 gigabytes of on-line virtual disk space, allowing users to securely store and quickly access their computer files, movies and music from any Internet-connected computer.
"Web-disk is a fast-growing market for storage, and NAS is a perfect fit in this environment, where storage appliances connect with many servers running the same program," said Michael Hyun, president of Seoul-based Bitek Technology Inc., a Procom distributor since 1999, which facilitated the TES sales and installation and will provide ongoing service. "TES considered several other storage systems and chose NetFORCE because it is the most cost effective and gives them the high availability and fast performance they need."
The 10 Procom NF4000s provide TES with a combined raw storage capacity of 46 terabytes. Each NAS filer features multiple-gigabit network interface cards with port aggregation and is connected to 10 or more Linux Red Hat 8.x and 9.x servers.
"The Procom NAS filers enable us to centrally manage our Hot Disk storage application, and this also helps lower our overall system administration costs," said Seoung Jae Yun, TES's assistant chief executive officer. "Most importantly, our customers benefit from NetFORCE's high speed and reliability, knowing that whatever they store will be available to them when they want it."
An ideal solution for data-intensive applications, the NetFORCE 4000 NAS filers combine optimized software, open architecture, and a modular, fully redundant design using hot-swappable components. Storage density is maximized by a low 2U profile, and a 2-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel back end enhances performance, while a browser-based GUI makes the NF4000 easy to use. For true 24/7 business continuance, Procom's multi-featured ProMirror software option lets companies replicate stored information at a remote site for disaster recovery, backup or other data management purposes.
Procom's acclaimed enterprise-class NetFORCE operating system offers advanced reliability features, such as a journalized file system to ensure data integrity and checkpoints for rapid recovery of damaged or deleted files. Other functionalities include cross-platform heterogeneous file sharing, NDMP-compliant backup, and SNMP monitoring.
