RosettaNet Extends Global Presence with Launch of Thai Office

30 September 2005

RosettaNet, the leading business process standards consortium and subsidiary of GS1 US(TM) (formerly the Uniform Code Council, Inc.), today announced the official launch of its newest regional affiliate, RosettaNet Thai. The launch celebration, hosted by Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, Director of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), was held at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok.

"We are pleased to have a presence in this region and to work with all appropriate governing bodies to offer business solutions that drive supply chain collaboration and add value to small and mid-sized enterprises as well as their global trading partners," says Herman Stiphout, president of RosettaNet. "Companies who implement our standards enjoy a healthy return on investment by reducing order management cycle time, contract costs, manual workload and increasing capacity utilization."

RosettaNet Thai will initially focus on the adoption of RosettaNet's Automated Enablement Program, a low-cost solution for small and mid-sized enterprises to implement RosettaNet's overall business process standards. The new office will collaborate with Thai government agencies to support the high technology, hard disk drive, logistics and automotive industries in an effort to employ eCustoms, eLogitistics and Material Composition standards that deliver supply chain efficiencies to small and mid-sized enterprises. To date, RosettaNet Thai has formed an advisory board comprised of the following government and quasi-government agencies: NECTEC, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Electrical and Electronics Institute (EEI), Office of Industrial Economics (OIE), as well as the Software Park Thailand and Office of SMEs Promotion. It has also formed a protem steering committee comprised of RosettaNet consortium members from Seagate, Schenker, Exel, IBM, and Intel who are responsible for RosettaNet Thai operations. The committee will also provide strategy and bring an understanding of the value of standards to Thai industries and the community.

"We are excited about the many opportunities that will ensue from this new office location," says Steven Yeo, vice president of RosettaNet Asia. "RosettaNet and RosettaNet Thai will focus its initial efforts on helping the small to mid-sized enterprises in the area understand the benefits and value that our business process standards can bring to them and their global trading partners."
