LIFEcard Health™ (http://LIFEcardServices.com/Health), an online health information management solution, has added a living will storage feature to its existing array of health data storage options.
The new feature at LIFEcard Health™ (http://LIFEcardServices.com/Health) enables members to develop a legally binding living will and store that personalized living will in a secure online database. If the LIFEcard Health member is unable to communicate, medical personnel access the members’ LIFEcard Health card (carried in a purse or wallet) and can then request information about that members personal health requests, living will, medications, physicians, emergency contact list and more through the LIFEcardHealth.com website or through a toll-free phone number.
The legal battles between the parents of Terry Schiavo, her husband and Congress have convinced many people on the importance of having a living will. “I would not want my loved ones to have to make a decision like that,” said Gemma Piscotti. “I know how I want my life to end and I feel as though my decisions will be respected because I outlined them in a living will.” Piscotti signed-up herself and her immediate family members for the LIFEcard Health service for the sole reason of developing a living will.
A living will is a document that sets out guidelines for dealing with life-sustaining medical procedures in the eventuality of the signatory's sudden debilitation. Living wills would, for example, inform medical staff not to provide extraordinary life-preserving procedures on their bodies if they are incapable of expressing themselves and suffering from an incurable and terminal condition.
