Update: IBM Unveils New System x and BladeCenter Systems Featuring Energy Efficient Performance28 June 2006
Scalable advanced graphics computing; starting at US $2,169. System x3650, using IBM Java 2 5.0 Runtime Environment, delivered aleadership 2-processor score of 114,941 SPECjbb2005 business operations persecond (SPECjbb2005 bops) and 114,941 (SPECjbb2005 bops/JVM) running theSPECjbb2005 benchmark, which evaluates the performance of servers runningtypical Java business applications. This score is 14 percent higher thanthe 100,407 bops achieved by the Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY BX620S3. (2) IBM PowerExecutive, the first solution on the market that providescustomers with the intelligence needed to effectively manage powerconsumption in the datacenter, is also available across the line of bladesand servers introduced today, free of charge and available by download forcustomers. IBM expects the systems introduced today to be available in August 2006.Additional x86 systems for a variety of business computing needs will beintroduced as part of the IBM System x portfolio and IBM Express portfolioin the coming months. (1) Based on benchmark test results obtained running a Web server workload.Measurements were conducted by IBM using the x3650 and aprevious-generation server. Actual results obtained in a customerenvironment will depend on the application workload for that environment. (2) Both the x3650 and the PRIMERGY BX620 used two Dual-Core Intel XeonProcessors 5160 (2 chips/4 cores/2 cores per chip). Statements ofcomparison are based on the best SPECjbb2005 scores for systems using 2processors (2 chips/4 cores/2 cores per chip). Results referenced arecurrent as of June 26, 2006. The SPECjbb2005 results for the x3650 havebeen submitted to SPEC for review. Upon successful review, the result willbe posted at www.spec.org, which contains a complete list of publishedSPECjbb2005 results.
