VCG Staffing Software to Offer Turn-key Disaster-Recovery Services to Staffing Clients

22 December 2004

VCG Inc., the developer of StaffSuite and WebPAS staffing software solutions for leading staffing companies, today announced the addition of disaster recovery services to its portfolio of services. "These services are a direct response by VCG to the growing recognition by our customers of the potential for loss in the event of disaster," said David McCullough, Director of Operations for VCG. "They are an example of how great partnerships focus on building solutions for possible challenges to their business operations."

VCG's staffing software disaster recovery services offering began with a realization by one staffing provider about 'what might have happened.' Hurricane season hit Florida hard this year and Britt Landrum III, Chief Technical Officer of Landrum Staffing Services in Pensacola, knew that he was lucky to have survived without significant damage to his staffing business. He was determined to implement a disaster plan so that he would have greater piece of mind in the future.

Britt and Sharon Mathews, System Administrator at Landrum, were already in the process of setting up an offsite environment in Pensacola to house an additional server to support their staffing software for emergency purposes earlier this year. Exploring his options to this plan, he spoke to David McCullough, VCG's Director of Operations, and John Bill, VCG's IT Manager, at the annual VCG User Meeting in April and decided to pursue the possibility of housing his server in VCG's state of the art colocation facility in Atlanta.

Specifically, Britt needed the ability to have a parallel environment ready on a moments notice so that his business would experience minimal interruption in the event of an unforeseen disaster. VCG, Landrum's staffing software partner for over twenty years, already had a history of hosting multiple environments for our customers at our ASP site, so VCG put it's technical savvy to work to come up with a solution for Landrum.

VCG proposed that a 'snapshot' of Landrum's data in Florida could be made each evening and then downloaded and unpacked onto the server in Atlanta. The server, the staffing software, and the data would then be available to the staff should they need it the next day in the event of some disaster crippling Landrum's site in Florida. In addition, the day-to-day management of the server in Atlanta would fall under VCG's responsibilities as well. VCG would charge a monthly rate for the services, just as they would for an ASP or Managed Services customer.

Britt and Sharon agreed that this offered them the solution that they were looking for. Ben Davis, one of VCG's most experienced Technical Support Representatives, was given the responsibility of developing the utilities necessary to complete this nightly import of staffing software data from Pensacola to Atlanta.

"VCG's continuous commitment to our relationship and the way that they support their products were the driving factors behind our partnering with them on this project," said Britt. "We have a long history with VCG and they have always been there to support us when we needed them."

The disaster recovery offering is another example of how VCG uniquely meets the needs of the staffing industry through not only the staffing software, but also the services that we provide.
